Microneedling with PRP Facial Treatment
SkinPen microneedling with PRP facial treatment, is often dubbed as "Vampire Facial." As the microneedling process is occurring, a concentration of platelets and plasma from a client's own blood is used to help heal and renew their skin. The growth factors in platelets are critical for skin to keep it looking plump and full of elastin. This facial treatment, combines the process of microneedling with the application of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) extracted from your own blood. Following the microneedling and PRP treatment, to optimize skin rejuvenation, we then apply LED light therapy to support this process by stimulating collagen production and improving overall skin health. The goal is to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture by using your body's natural healing mechanisms.

- Blood thinning agents should be discontinued: vitamin E, vitamin A, gingko, garlic, flax, cod liver oil, and essential fatty acids. (7-10 days prior)
- Prescription blood thinners should be discontinued, please consult with your provider, as they may pose a contraindication to this treatment: Plavix, Warfarin, Eliquis, and Heparin.
- Avoid aspirin, Advil, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, and any other anti-inflammatory medications.
- Acetaminophen as needed prior to the treatment.
- All prescription medications should be taken as prescribed.
- Avoid topical products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A), Retinols, Retinoids, Glycolic Acid, Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Salicylic Acid, or other “anti-aging," “acne," and “bleaching” products. Also avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or the use of hair removal cream on the area to be treated.
- Avoid sun and heat exposure and wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily of SPF 30 or higher.
- Drink plenty of water prior to treatment to facilitate the blood drawing process.

- Please arrive at the office with a clean face. Skin should be free of makeup, lotions, sunscreen, moisturizer, or other topical products.
- Advise staff of a history of any significant allergy or skin sensitivity.
- Advise staff of having had a recent facial peel or surgery.
- Advise staff of recent use of self-tanning lotions, tanning booths, or prolonged sun exposure 24 hours prior to treatment.
- Advise staff if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- A topical anesthetic cream is applied prior to procedure and will create numbing of the dermal tissues, generally taking 20-25 minutes.
- A vial of blood is draw from the client.
- The vial is placed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from the red and white blood cells.
- Once separated, the PRP solution ("Liquid Gold") is placed topically to the skin's surface, followed be microneedling which aids in targeting both the superficial and deeper layers of the dermis to stimulate collagen production and tissue repair.

- Clients can expect a certain degree of discomfort, redness, swelling, and/or irritation during and after treatment.
- A bruise may form at the blood draw site. This is normal and bruising should diminish within several days.
- Cool compresses can be applied to reduce swelling. Under-eye area can swell significantly.
- Skin will look as though there has been a moderate to severe sunburn and may feel warm and tight. This diminishes the same day or within 24 hours.
- Anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil should be avoided, as they will interfere with the natural inflammatory process.
- Avoid vigorous exercise, sun exposure, and heat exposure for at least 24 hours following treatment.
- Use a gentle cleanser (i.e. Alastin Ultra Calm Cleansing Cream, Moor Spa Milk Cleanser) and lukewarm water to cleanse the face for the next 72 hours. Use a gentle moisturizer as needed.
- Apply a hyaluronic acid serum (i.e., Alastin HA Immerse Serum, iS Clinical Hydra-Cool Serum).
- Pay close attention to facial hygiene. Using clean linens and towels during the healing process. Do not share personal facial towels. Use disposable face wipes, if possible.

- Some clients may experience a dull ache and/or tenderness in the treated areas. This will subside in 48-72 hours.
- In the rare case of an adverse event, an antidote can be administered that will partially or fully reverse the effects of treatment.
- Avoid warm environments (i.e., hot tubs, jacuzzi, hot showers, steam rooms, hot yoga, sauna) for three days post-treatment.
- Skin may also peel slightly for a several days. This can vary depending on original skin condition.
- To get the best results, it’s recommended to avoid makeup until the peeling stops.
- While the redness and swelling are generally not painful, slight itching may occur.
- Clients may begin to see improvements in the overall texture and tone shortly after the treatment, but the overall effects take up to three months for optimal improvement. This is because new collagen formation takes 4-6 weeks to develop so please be patient.
- It is recommended to have a minimum of three treatments, 4-6 weeks apart for maximum benefit.
